Matt Stewart was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and later in his teenage years graduated from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas. Matt later graduated from Bethany University in Santa Cruz, California, and he and his family have lived in the bay area ( N. California) ever since. His family consists of his wife Lori, son Chase, daughter Skye, and son Ryder. Matt started being involved in music at age 10, when his father bought him his first drum set. A few years later at age 15 he turned the drums over to his brother Sam and pursued playing the guitar. Ever since then, the call to music has been loud and clear. Matt began leading worship at age 16 in his local youth group that ran 200 students, and the desire to go deeper into music consumed him. In 1992 the band Flipside was formed , made up of Matt Stewart, Tim Stewart, Sam Stewart, & Chris Gatmaitan. Flipside toured all over the West Coast of the United States & across seas to the Carribean, playing to thousands of people. In 1997 Flipside was selected winners of "Bay Area Band Search", where 150 bands applied and performed. Flipside pushed its music to all venues being accepted as a legitimate funk/rock force. Flipside had the privilege of playing venues with bands such as, P.O.D., Project 86, and the Corbin's. Indie Empire Records (Crystal Lewis), Los Angeles, put Flipside's song "Real Deal" on their compilation album, and the album was pushed nation wide by all distributors. Flipside was signed by 98* Degree Records and produced their self titled CD "Flipside". In 1999, Matt decided to pursue leading worship again, and during a trip to Israel had the awesome privilege to meet Andre Gasiorowski / G-Forces. Since then, has been teaming up with the G-Forces movement in the Middle East & Europe. Having been a worship leader for the past 12 years, Matt has written 80+ songs, and has taken these songs to the nations (Mexico, El Salvador, Trinidad, and Israel). Matt has led worship for both Youth & Adult's at the Feast of Tabernacle's Conference in Jerusalem for the past 8 years. Highlight of this musical adventure has to be performing at the first “Raise the Praise” concert in Jerusalem, and at the "Song of Songs" festival in Poland, & singing with Kymberly Stewart and Mateo & his band. |
